FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville Tech’s women’s basketball team has released its schedule for the 2021-22 season.

After a home-and-home pair of October scrimmages with NCAA Division II program Belmont Abbey, the Trojans will compete in a 28-game regular season that begins Nov. 3.

Peace Shepard Easton took over as head coach of the Trojans in August after the program endured back-to-back winless seasons.

The first-year coach said the season will be full of hurdles, with challenges still spawning from the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing development of a mostly new roster.

“Part of our challenge is that I arrived late in the recruiting season,” Easton said. “We’re trying to get players settled in, acquainted with each other and adjusted to the routine.”

FTCC will begin the regular season with a home game against Wake Tech CC on the Trojans’ home court at Reid Ross Classical School.

The contest is just one of four home games for the Trojans before the winter break. January and February bring a reprieve from travel, with FTCC hosting 10 of its home games in the back half of the season.

Region 10 Division II was particularly potent last season, with five different teams garnering votes in the NJCAA Division II national poll throughout the season.

Along with those programs returning, the conference will feature the reentry of five teams that opted out of last season due to the pandemic.

With so many unknown variables in play, Easton said the Trojans are putting their focus on what they can control — dedication and effort.

“The girls have worked hard all offseason. I’m proud of them and excited to see how it’s going to work out,” Easton said. “We’re focused on giving 100 percent and leaving it all on the floor.”
