Mission Statement: The Selma Experience and Leadership Conference offers students from Fayetteville Technical Community College and Fayetteville State University the unique opportunity to experience history firsthand and to prepare to be leaders in their own communities. Students will cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge and visit sites such as the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, the Rosa Parks Museum, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, the National Voting Rights Museum, and the George Washington Carver Museum. At the Student Leadership Conference, students will engage with past and present community, voting rights, and civil rights leaders. Also, the group will attend the Jubilee Festival and Parade as well as the Intergenerational Hip Hop Summit.
Trip Details: This event will take place from March 1, 2023, through March 5, 2023. Students will travel in style aboard the luxurious FTCC athletic bus, Pegasus, accompanied by FTCC and FSU faculty and staff. Students/Supporting Faculty and Staff will stay in a hotel (TBA) in Montgomery, Alabama in double occupancy rooms (single rooms will incur additional cost). Breakfast is included. FTCC and FSU hope that fundraising will make the trip very affordable for students while providing them with a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Cost details are to be published later.
