KINSTON — After suffering a 93-point loss in its season-opener, Fayetteville Tech women’s basketball team (0-2) showed marked improvement Tuesday, Nov. 12, with a 68-60 loss at Lenoir CC.

While the result fell short of the Trojans’ goal, the team — built entirely from a new roster and under the leadership of first-year coach Henry Cowan — made major strides from its debut less than a week earlier.

Freshman point guard Zaniya Melrose-Williams had a breakout night, scoring a game-high 26 points.

Freshman forward Rhiannon Hooper recorded a double-double, pouring in 11 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Hooper went 5-for-7 from the field and notched four blocks.

Allison Hamlin helped fuel the offense, ending the night with seven assists.

The Trojans return home to Reid Ross Classical on Wednesday, Nov. 13, to take on Guilford Tech. The game, which starts at 5 p.m., is the front-end of a doubleheader with the men’s basketball team, which hosts Wake Tech at 7 p.m.
