Volleyball had their best season in school history this past season (Fall 2021) going 20-5 overall and 10-4 in conference play. They went into the DII Region X Conference Playoffs as the no. 3 seed on the East side. They faced the no. 2 seed on the West side, Catawba Valley, going into the tournament losing 3-1 in a close match. Losing the first two games 10-25 and 13-25, they battled back to take game three 25-21. Falling short in game four 24-26 to decide the match.

Coach Licardo and the Lady Trojan Volleyball program accomplished so much in the fourth season of existence. Improving in all team categories and breaking every individual single season school records. They ended the season as a team with 984 kills, 908 assists, 2949 total attacks, 237 service aces, 1272 digs, 121 blocks and 1341.5 points. A lot of these team records came from the help of single season school records. Lauren Adams had 243 kills on her sophomore season. Adams also had 736 total attacks, 63 service aces and 330.5 points for her team. Woosley finished the season with 790 assists. While Wrench had 261 digs and Sonjai Guiles had 60 total blocks.

Volleyball had three players receive All-Region awards. Lauren Adams received First Team All-East. Jacqueline Woosley and Alyssa Wrench received Second Team All-East.

Nine players are apart of the 2021-22 All-Academic Team for Region 10. Adams, Guiles, Taylor Melvin, Morgan Brady, Aliyah Brown, Sydney Conklin, Kristen Woods, Woosley and Wrench receive the honors.

“We are losing three key components to our team next year, but returning our setter who will be our leader. I need the freshman to come in, pick up some slack and step up to make a run for a conference title,” said Coach Licardo.

Volleyball is returning seven players from last years team and has six recruits coming in for their 2022 season.

“Education is the ultimate goal for this season for the girls because education comes first. I want to make a run for Best Team GPA at FTCC and also have as many players as we can on the Region 10 All-Academic Team. Athletically, I want to build awareness that FTCC can play volleyball and compete in the NJCAA. We finish top three of the conference every year, but our goal is to finish first in the conference,” Coach Licardo said about goals for next season.

Lady Trojan Volleyball will be fundraising for their 2022 season to pay for a trip to Bronx, New York to compete at Monroe College against some different teams. They also have a trip to Chattanooga State in Tennessee to play some different competition. “Competition gets you ready for season,” said Coach Moe. “I want them to compete, travel and focus on volleyball.”

The team will be all together in Fayetteville at the end of July and will start preparing for their season shortly after.

Volleyball opens their season on Saturday, August 20 in Horace Sisk at 1pm for an Alumni Game.

A complete Fall 2022 season schedule will be posted on the FTCC Athletics website in the near future.
