Softball traveled to Raleigh this past weekend to take on the Eagles of Wake Tech. The Trojans fell in game one on Friday, but swept the doubleheader on Saturday to secure the series win. 

FTCC vs. Wake Tech 

Game One, 0-4 Loss

The Eagles scored early in the bottom of the first inning and then two more runs in the fifth. They held the Trojans scoreless through seven innings to take game one of the series. 

The Trojans had four hits in the game, but could not get a run on the scoreboard. 

Tam Lowery (Raeford, NC) through a complete six innings. She gave up nine hits, four runs and had eight strikeouts. 

 

Game Two, 5-0 Win

The Trojans came out different on Saturday, scoring runs two runs in the top of the first and three in the second inning. They held the Eagles scoreless through all seven innings and were able to secure the win in early innings. 

They started the game off with four singles in a row to score their first two runs. Isabella Finelli (Pembroke, NC) led off with a line drive to right field. Trinity Gaither (Bunnlevel, NC), Morgan Brady (Fayetetville, NC) and Nyla Mitchell (Lumberton, NC) all followed with their singles. 

The last runs of the game were scored in the top of the second inning on one hit. With one out, Krista McLean (Dunn, NC), Finelli and Gaither all walked. Brady hit her second single of the game to pick up another RBI. With two outs and the bases loaded for the Trojans, the Eagle’s pitcher hit Lowery and walked Ava Basolt (Sanford, NC) to plate two more Trojan runners. 

The Trojans had nine hits and the offense was led by Brady going 2-3 with two RBIs. 

Lowery pitched game one of the day for the Trojans throwing all seven innings, giving up only four hits and having three strikeouts. 

 

Game Three, 10-0 Win (5-innings)

The Trojans scored early and often in game three to plate ten runs and end the game early in five innings. 

Finelli led off the top of the first inning with a single. With two outs, Lowery smashed a fly ball over the right field fence to give the Trojans a two-run early lead. 

In the second inning, McLean led off with a single and with one out, Faith Martin (Gatesville, NC) hit a line drive double to left field. Madeline Burns (Sanford, NC) was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Finelli hit a double to score one more Trojan run. 

The Trojans had their big inning in the top of fourth when they scored six runs on five hits. With one out, Martin singled to get the Trojans a baserunner. The Eagles commited a two-out error, which allowed the Trojans to get their rally started. Gaither, Brady and Lowery all hit singles to score three runs. Mitchell was then hit by a pitch followed by another Eagles error and a single from Basolt score the next three runs in the inning. 

The Trojans needed one more run to enforce the run rule going into the fifth inning. Burns led off with a double and Finelli hit her second double of the game to secure the ten-run lead. 

The Eagles went down one, two, three in the bottom of the fifth to end the game. 

Basolt pitched a five inning shut out for the Trojans. She gave up two hits and had two strikeouts. 

The Trojans had 12 hits, with their offense being led by Finelli going 3-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Softball is back at home on Tuesday, April 9 when they host Patrick & Henry in a non-conference doubleheader at 4pm. The Trojans are on the road this weekend as they head to Catawba Valley for their next conference match up.
