Softball traveled right down the road to play Methodist University-JV on Tuesday, February 13 in a doubleheader. With an even match up, the Monarchs took one game and the Trojans took the other. 

FTCC @ Methodist University-JV- Tuesday, February 13 (5-7 Loss & 6-5 Win)

Game one:

The Trojans took the lead early, scoring one run in the first inning and three more in the second. The Monarchs tied the game at four in the bottom of the third when they scored four runs and then pulled ahead in the fourth. The Trojans responded back in the fifth with one run, but it was not enough with going scoreless the rest of the game. 

The big second inning for the Trojans started off with two singles by Krista McLean (Dunn, NC) and Faith Martin (Gatesville, NC). Ava Basolt (Sanford, NC) then drew a walk, which was followed by a sacrifice bunt to score a run from Trinity Gaither (Bunnlevel, NC). The Trojans scored two more runs with a Monarch error and a single by Morgan Brady (Fayetteville, NC). 

Tamarah Lowery (Raeford, NC) started the game on the mound for the Trojans going four innings with six strikeouts. Basolt finished the final two innings giving up one hit and one run. 

McLean lead the Trojans offensively going 4-4 at the plate and scoring two runs. 

Game two:

The second game started with a bang for the Trojans scoring three runs in the top of the first. McLean started where she left off in game one belting a double to right field to score Gaither and Brady to get the Trojans on the scoreboard. Madeline Burns (Sanford, NC) and Lowery both hit singles to load the bases before the Monarchs turn a big double play. With two outs, Kaylee Frank (Fayetteville, NC) singles to center field to earn herself an RBI before the Trojans make the third out at the plate. 

The Monarchs take their only lead of the game in the bottom of the first inning responding with four runs. They go on to score one more run in the second and then remain scoreless through the next five innings. 

McLean was 2-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs to lead the Trojans to victory. Frank also went 2-3 with a single and double giving her two RBIs. 

Basolt threw all seven innings for the Trojans taking the win.
