Softball traveled to Louisburg on Thursday and Catawba Valley on Saturday for four conference games this past week. They dropped all four road games before returning home this week to finish out the regular season. 

Softball is currently 3-29 overall and 1-13 in conference play. 

FTCC vs. Louisburg

Game One- 1-15, Loss (5-innings)

The Trojans held the Hurricanes to only one run through the first two innings, but then the game broke open in the third and fourth innings when they scored 14 runs. 

The Trojans scored their only run in the third inning. Heather Haggard (Grapevine, TX) and Raven Ross-Gillespie (West End, NC) both walked. Haggard stole third and then advanced home on an error from the Hurricane’s pitcher. 

One hit was recorded by Maya Florido (Fayetteville, NC). Haggard and Ross-Gillespie each had a stolen base. 

Haggard pitched all four innings on the mound for the Trojans.

Game Two- 1-9, Loss (5-innings)

The Trojans got on the board first scoring a run in the top of the first. Leah Benjamin (McColl, SC) tripled to score Liz LeRouge (Spring Lake, NC) who reached on a fielder’s choice. 

The Hurricane’s tied the game up in the second then took the lead in the third with their four-run inning. 

The Trojans were unable to score anymore runs and the game ended early in 5-innings. 

Haggard, LeRouge and Benjamin each had two hits. 

Alexis Walters (Fayetteville, NC) pitched all 4.2 innings of the game.

FTCC vs. Catawba Valley

Game One- 2-8, Loss

The Red Hawks were up by two runs going into the fourth inning. The Trojans came back to tie it up in the top of the fourth. 

Ross-Gillespie leadoff the inning with a single and Benjamin doubled to score her. With one out, LeRouge singled and then she stole second base while Benjamin stole home to tie it. 

The Red Hawks got one more across in the bottom of the inning to take the lead and then added five more in the sixth to ensure their win. 

The Trojans had five hits and four stolen bases. 

Walters started on the mound throwing 5.2 innings and Haggard threw the final 0.1 inning.

Game Two- 1-9, Loss (5-innings)

The Red Hawks got on the board in the third with two runs. The Trojans responded with one run in the top of the fourth to cut their lead in half. 

Ross-Gillespie walked and then scored on a ground ball RBI from Halea Joines (Fayetteville, NC). 

Catawba Valley then scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early. 

Haggard and Florido had the Trojan’s two hits. 

Haggard pitched all 4.2 innings with one strikeout.

The Trojans will host Pitt on Wednesday with a doubleheader starting at 2PM. Then they will host Southwest Virginia on Friday starting at 1PM. On Saturday, the Trojans will have Sophomore Day to recognize four sophomores before the start of their doubleheader with Wake Tech at 1PM. Sophomore recognition will begin at 12:30 on Saturday.
