Softball hosted the Yetis of Cleveland Community College in their last weekend series. The Trojans took game one on Saturday 4-0 to set a new program wins record for the Trojan softball program and the win also gave Coach John Newman his 50th career win. 

On Sunday, they celebrated their five sophomores: Ava Basolt, Faith Martin, Kaylee Frank, Tam Lowery and Morgan Brady. 

FTCC vs. Cleveland Community College

Game one- 4-0, Win

The Trojans scored first in the bottom of the second inning when they plated two to take the first lead of the game. Tam Lowery (Raeford, NC) led off with a double to left field. Kaylee Frank (Fayetteville, NC) advanced her to third base with a single to center. With two outs, Krista McLean (Dunn, NC) singled to left field for an RBI and after a walk from Isabella Finelli (Pembroke, NC) to load the bases, Trinity Gaither (Bunnlevel, NC) drew an RBI walk for the second run of the inning.

The final two runs of the game were scored in the bottom of the fifth from the Trojans. Gaither started things off with a single then Morgan Brady (Fayetteville, NC) and Nyla Mitchell (Lumberton, NC) hit back to back doubles to add two runs to the scoreboard. 

The Trojans used two pitchers in their shutout. Lowery threw the first five innings giving up three hits and Ava Basolt (Sanford, NC) finished the final two innings allowing no hits. 

Lowery led the offense going 2-3 with two doubles and Mitchell added two RBIs. 

 

Game Two- 3-13, Loss

The Yetis scored first when they came out in the top of the first inning and plated two runs. 

The Trojans responded back in the bottom of the inning scoring one to make it a one run game. Gaither hit a one out single and Brady hit her in on a hard ground ball up the middle. 

The Yetis had a 7-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning until the Trojans scored two more runs to chip away.

With two outs, Mitchell smashed a line drive to center field for a double. Lowery followed with an RBI single and Basolt plated another run with her RBI double. 

The Yetis continued to score six more runs in the seventh inning and the Trojans were unable to make a comeback in the bottom. 

Basolt started on the mound throwing five innings and Lowery finished the final two innings. 

Brady led the Trojan offense going 2-3 with one RBI. 

 

Game Three- 0-6, Loss: Sophomore Day

The Trojans recognized five sophomores before the start of game three on Sunday, April 28.

Game three was a pitcher’s dual up until the top of the fifth inning when the Yetis got on the scoreboard and continued to add every inning following. 

Lowery pitched first for the Trojans throwing five innings and later went back in to finish the game. Basolt came in for relief in the fifth for 1.1 innings of work. 

The Trojans had six hits, two of them coming from Basolt. Mitchell added another double.
