Softball hosted Pitt Community College this past Sunday, March 10 in a conference doubleheader at JP Riddle Complex. The Trojans battled in both games, but fell short in two. 

FTCC vs. Pitt CC (10-11, Loss & 3-7, Loss)

Game One

The Trojans went scoreless until the final three innings where they made a comeback within one run of the Bulldogs. 

Tamarah Lowery (Raeford, NC) started on the mound for the Trojans throwing 4.1 innings. Lowery allowed six runs and nine hits and had five strikeouts. Faith Martin (Gatesville, NC) came in for relief throwing the final 2.2 innings. 

The Trojans plated their first run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nyla Mitchell (Lumberton, NC) started off the inning with a triple to right field. With two outs, Mitchell crossed the plate on a passed ball before Ava Basolt (Sanford, NC) doubled to center field. 

Madeline Burns (Sanford, NC) led off the sixth inning with a walk and later advanced to second base on a passed ball. Isabelli Finelli (Pembroke, NC) singled to left field before Trinity Gaither (Bunnlevel, NC) doubled to center for an RBI. Morgan Brady (Fayetteville, NC) scored two more Trojan runs when she hit a single to right field. Mitchell, Krista McLean (Dunn, NC) and Basolt all singled to score two more runs before the third out. 

Keeping the Bulldogs scoreless in the top of the seventh, the Trojans were behind by five going into their last at bat. Burns started off the inning with a single followed by a Finelli walk. Gaither sacrifice bunted the runners over. Brady hit a single to score one of the runs, Mitchell hit another single to score one more. Brady made her way to third base and scored on a passed ball to put the Trojans within two runs. Lowery walked to put runners on the corners for McLean who hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score one more run. With two outs and the tying run on second base, Basolt hit a ground ball for the third out of the inning. 

Mitchell went 3-4 with a triple, Finelli was 2-3 and Basolt went 2-4 with a double.

In game two, the Bulldogs got on top early in the first inning and never lost their lead the whole game. 

Basolt pitched a complete seven inning game for the Trojans. She gave up 7 runs on 11 hits and had 5 strikeouts. 

The Trojans had nine hits, but were only able to piece together three runs. 

Finelli, Brady and Burns each had two hits for the Trojans. Mitchell had two RBIs. 

Game Two Stats

 

Softball is on the road this week traveling to Pitt Community College on Tuesday, March 12 for game three of their series. They are on the road this weekend playing both Saturday and Sunday at Southwest Virginia Community College. The next home game for the Trojans is Wednesday, March 20 as they host Methodist University JV in a doubleheader starting at 4pm.
