FAYETTEVILLE, NC – October 31, 2019 – Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) ranks 5th nationally by Military Times in the Best for Vets: Colleges 2020 rankings for Career and Technical Colleges. In their tenth year, Military Times conducts an extensive, editorially independent, objective study to evaluate many factors that help make colleges and universities a good fit for service members, military veterans, and their families.

Military Times’ survey asks colleges and universities to disclose academic outcome and input data, describe many aspects of veteran culture on campus, and meticulously document a wide array of services, special policies, accommodations, and financial incentives offered to students with military ties. Military Times also factors in data from the Veterans Affairs and Defense departments, as well as the Education Department’s IPEDS Data Center Database.

To create the rankings, Military Times evaluated colleges’ survey responses based on information veterans shared as being important to them, as well as the editorial judgment of Military Times.  Military Times considered many factors when developing the rankings and evaluated institutions in five categories:  college culture, student support, academic policies, academic outcomes/quality, and cost and financial aid.

Military Times measured 2018 military enrollment data tracked by the College as it applies to service members and veterans.  At Fayetteville Tech, the All American Veterans Center provides military-connected students with services in consolidated veterans spaces; the Center is a stand-alone building where military-connected students can meet, socialize, study, or receive academic help.  TA Eligible indicates if a school has agreed to the Defense Department’s Memorandum of Understanding for military education, required for participation in military tuition assistance.  At or below TA limits shows whether a school’s tuition rates were at or below the $250-per-credit-hour limit set for most military tuition assistance in the 2018-19 school year.  GI Bill gap coverage rates how well schools reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket tuition costs for Post 9/11 GI Bill users; Fayetteville Tech received the highest 4-stars rating.  The regional body for the accreditation of Fayetteville Technical Community College is the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.  Fayetteville Tech’s 83% retention rate shows the proportion of a school’s full-time and part-time students with connections to the military who returned to classes the fall semester after they initially began classes at the College.  The graduation rate shows the proportion of the College’s students with connections to the military who graduated within 150 percent of the expected completion time for the degrees pursued.  For additional information, please visit https://www.militarytimes.com/education-transition/2019/10/28/best-for-vets-top-colleges-2020/.
