FAYETTEVILLE — Fayetteville Tech men’s basketball opened the regular season in thrilling fashion Sunday afternoon, securing a 76-74 win over visiting Bryant & Stratton with a buzzer-beating basket from sophomore Donte Johnson.

The Trojans, after losing a double-digit lead in the closing minutes of the second half, found themselves tied with the Bobcats with at 74-74 with an inbound opportunity with under 10 seconds to play.

Johnson worked for position at the elbow, getting free and fed with a pass from Collin Lewis from the arc. Johnson needed a dribble and a step inside the lane to turn around and drain the game-winner at the horn.

The basket was part of an 11-point night for the sophomore.

The Trojans held a 43-35 lead at the half, using a 10-0 run around the four-minute mark to erase an early Bobcat lead.

The Bobcats chipped away at that lead until overtaking the Trojans late in the game, launching a series of lead changes until the Trojans sealed the win on the closing basket.
