Fayetteville Technical Community College will host a lecture about the history, folklore and archaeology of the Lost Colony at 1 pm on Thursday, Oct. 26, in the Multipurpose Room of the Tony Rand Student Center.

The event is free and open to the public.

Outer Banks historian Tama Creef will give a lecture entitled “Why the Roanoke Voyages Failed: Theories Abound” and will provide an overview of the extensive research that has been conducted over the years and how the tragedy of the Lost Colony has been used in folklore, art and commerce.

Creef, now retired, was a long-time archivist with the state’s Outer Banks History Center on Roanoke Island. She spent the last 15 years there processing collections and guiding researchers. Creef still lives on Roanoke Island.

The lecture is part of FTCC’s Community Lecture Series.

People may also view the lecture live online by accessing this link – https://www.faytechcc.edu/media-services/roanoke-colony-history-lecture/ – or by scanning the QR code on the flyer.

Parking for the student center is accessible via the FTCC Access Road, which runs behind the student center between Hull Road and Devers Street. Entrances to the access road will be marked with special event signs.
