FTCC softball and baseball players volunteered to help the United Way of Cumberland County this past Wednesday and Thursday. The event took place at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church for their Campaign Kickoff/Meal Packing Event.
The student-athletes volunteered the day before the event and the day of preparing all the stations and tables and participating in the packing the next day with the other 280 volunteers.
The United Way of Cumberland County provided all their volunteers with a fun event for the day. There was a photo booth, meal truck, prizes and more taking place in the church. Even Theo, FTCC mascot, joined in on the fun taking pictures with volunteers and dancing with Sparky the Fire Dog, Cumberland County NC Government’s mascot.
All together, 35,345 meal packets were put together and given to the local Emergency Assistance Program Food Pantry at Fayetteville Urban Ministry and Food Pantry Services at Catholic Charities.
A big thank you came out to all of our student-athlete volunteers helping make this event a success.
“We are truly grateful for all of the hard work the softball and baseball players from FTCC did for the Campaign Kickoff/Meal Packing event. They did everything from being the leader of tables, filling empty bins to loading up the trucks once the boxes were filled. They worked tirelessly on Wednesday and Thursday to help make the event run smoothly. With their assistance, the community came together and packed over 35,000 meal packets which will go to those in need here in our community,” said Melissa Reid, Director of Resource Development for United Way of Cumberland County.
