Baseball traveled to Pitt Community College this past weekend and took two out of three games from the Bulldogs. This is the second series the Trojans won against Pitt this season which brings them to an even .500 record on the year so far.

Game One- 6-0, Win

The Trojans took an early lead in the first inning and never looked back as they continued to score throughout the game. 

Three hits plated one runner in the top of the first. Zavion Ingram (Clayton, NC) and Caleb Holland (Fayetteville, NC) both singled and Wilmer Cuevas (Brentwood, NY) then doubled to score Ingram. 

The Trojans scored one more run in the fourth and again in the fifth. 

Logan Charlesworth (Fayetteville, NC) led off the fourth with a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Derrick Hall (Fayetteville, NC). 

Jaylon Woodley (Courtland, VA) started the fifth with a single to right field and then stole second base and advanced to third on a passed ball. Holland hit an RBI ground ball to score Woodley to put the Trojans up 3-0. 

The biggest inning for the Trojans was in the eighth when they scored their final three runs. Ingram was hit by a pitch and then stole second base. Cuevas reached on an error and Zamar Lewis (Dublin, NC) singled to center field to plate Ingram. Charlesworth then followed with a RBI single. With two outs, Lewis touched home plate on a passed ball and the Trojans went into the ninth with a 6-0 lead. 

Holland threw a complete game shutout. He allowed only five hits in nine innings and had two strikeouts. 

 

Game Two- 0-11, Loss (5-innings)

The Bulldogs came out different in game two. They scored in every inning and only allowed three Trojan hits for five innings. 

The Trojans used two pitchers in this five inning contest. Brett Alvis (Hanover, VA) started on the bump and Jack Anderson (Saint Simmons Island, GA) came in for relief in the third inning. 

Markey Purvis (Bennettsville, SC) went 1-1, Hall and Braylan Bull (Cumming, GA) each added a hit. 

 

Game Three- 11-6, Win

The third game of the series was a back and forth contest up until the Trojans scored four runs in the fifth to secure their lead. 

In the top of the first inning, Devin Outlaw (Jacksonville, FL) hit a one out single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Lewis and Hall both then singled for RBIs. 

In the second inning, Biz Ortiz (Eastover, NC) led off the inning with a single and Ingram doubled to put runners on the corners. Woodley then hit his first double of the day to score both baserunners. 

The Bulldogs tied the game up in the bottom of the third making it 4-4. 

The Trojans took the lead back in the top of the fourth with two hits. Ingram started the inning with a double and Woodley sacrificed him over to second base. Outlaw hit an RBI single to down the first base line to score Ingram to take the lead. 

Four more Trojan runs were plated in the fifth to break the game open. Lewis singled then stole second base before an error from the Bulldogs which allowed him to score. Bull put down a sacrifice bunt and Ortiz and Aaron Graves (Upper Marlboro, MD) walked. Ingram hit a sacrifice fly and Woodley singled to score three more runs. 

The Trojans were not done yet when they added to their lead in the sixth inning. With one out, Lewis reached base on a dropped third strike and Hall was hit by a pitch. Another Bulldogs error allowed Lewis to score. Bull hit an RBI ground ball to score Hall from third base. 

Rob Willis (Montgomery, AL) started on the mound for 1.2 innings of work. Benjamin Rohrbach (Stafford, VA) came in for 4.1 innings of relief work to get the win for the Trojans. Matthew Roberts (Canton, NC) finished the final three innings. 

Woodley led the offense going 3-5 with two doubles and four RBIs. Ingram also added two doubles.

Baseball will host their final regular season series this upcoming weekend at JP Riddle Stadium. The games have been moved to Friday, May 3 for a doubleheader starting at 1pm and a single game Sunday at 1pm for sophomore day. The Trojans will be hosting #5 Brunswick Community College.
