Baseball hosted the Eagles of Wake Tech Wednesday, February 28 at JP Riddle Stadium. With a slow start from the Trojans, they score five in the sixth inning to secure the win. 

FTCC vs. Wake Tech- February 28 (7-4, Win)

The Eagles led 4-0 going into the bottom of the third, until the Trojans plated their first run from a leadoff double by Mason Turner (Lexington, SC) and a Wake Tech error. 

The Trojans scored their second run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from Markey Purvis (Bennettsville, SC) to allow Devin Outlaw (Jacksonville, FL) to tag up, who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. 

The big inning for the Trojans happened in the bottom of the sixth. They scored five runs on two hits and took advantage of a few Eagles errors. The inning started off with three walks to load the bases. Zavion Ingram (Clayton, NC) hit a bases clearing double down the left field line to plate three more runs for the Trojans. Outlaw followed with an RBI single to right field to increase the lead by one. The Trojans kept putting the ball in play to force two Wake Tech errors, bringing the score to 7-4. 

No more runs were scored after the sixth inning for either team. 

The Trojans used nine pitchers on the day. Matthew Roberts (Canton, NC) started for the Trojans going perfect for two innings giving up no runs, no hits, no walks and he had three strikeouts. Xander Davis (Carolina Beach, NC) earned the win for the Trojans throwing the sixth inning to maintain the lead. Aidan McArdle (Pequannock, NJ) got out of a jam for the Trojans in the seventh, coming in with one out and two runners on to force a fly out and a ground ball to end the inning. Ingram moved from second based and pitched a one, two, three eighth inning before Jack Anderson (Saint Simmons Island, GA) closed out the ninth allowing one hit before striking out the final two outs.

Baseball is hosting Bryant & Stratton College this upcoming weekend for their next conference series. Saturday’s doubleheader is set to start at 12pm. Make sure to check the FTCC athletics website for any schedule changes due to weather.
