Baseball traveled to Whiteville to take on the Rams of Southeastern Community College on Saturday, March 30 in a doubleheader. The Trojans pulled out the first game, but fell to the Rams in game two. 

FTCC vs. Southeastern CC

Game One- 11-10, Win

The Trojans scored two runs in the top of the first inning to gain an early lead. Jaylon Woodley (Courtland, VA) led the inning off with a double, followed by a triple from Zavion Ingram (Clayton, NC). Mason Turner (Lexington, SC) hit a sacrifice fly to score Ingram from third base for the second run of the inning. 

Four more runs were scored for the Trojans in the top of the second inning. Braylan Bull (Cumming, GA) led off with a walk. With one out, Devin Outlaw (Jacksonville, FL) was hit by a pitch to give the Trojans two base runners. With two outs, Ingram reached on an error to allow another run to score before Turner hit a three-run homerun over the right field fence to increase the lead to 6-0. 

The Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the second to pull within four. 

The Trojans scored one more run in the fourth on a walk RBI from Markey Purvis (Bennettsville, SC) to maintain their lead. 

Derrick Hall (Fayetteville, NC) started off the fifth getting hit by a pitch and Outlaw followed with a single. With out one, Ingram hit a sacrifice fly to plate Hall and increase the Trojan lead to 8-3. 

The Rams hit a two-run homerun in the fifth and scored one run in the sixth to pull within two of the Trojans. 

Ingram walked to start the top of the seventh. Turner and Kleiderman Camacho (Venezuela) hit back to back singles to give the Trojans back a little bit of a lead going into late innings. One more run was scored in the top of the eighth on a Rams error to give the Trojans an 11-6 lead. 

The Trojans remain scoreless in the top of the ninth, before the Rams make a little run in the bottom. Southeastern hit two, two-run homeruns to pull within one run but the Trojans were able to get out of the jam to take the win. 

Brett Alvis (Hanover, VA) started on the mound going 2 innings. Ben Rorhbach (Stafford, VA) came in for relief for 3 innings. Tanner McNeal (Currituck County, NC) came into the game in the sixth for 3.2 innings of work, striking out four. Michael Abrahanson (Dominican Republic) came in for the save and the final out in the ninth. 

 

Game Two- 4-6, Loss

The Trojans did not score their first run until the top of the third when Hall walked to lead off the inning and Ingram doubled to score him. 

The Rams tied the game up at one in the bottom of the fourth inning and then took the lead 2-1 in the same inning. They continued to score three more runs in the fifth to pull ahead over the Trojans 5-1. The Rams kept the Trojans scoreless and added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth, now leading 6-1 going into the last inning. 

The Trojans made a run in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t quite plate enough runs. Aaron Graves (Upper Marlboro, MD) started the inning off with a walk. With one out, Hall singled followed by a walk from Outlaw. With two outs, Ingram and Turner hit back to back singles to bring the score within two runs, but the Trojans were unable to plate anyone else before the third out. 

Matthew Roberts (Canton, NC) started on the bump for the Trojans allowing three hits and two runs. Rob Willis (Montgomery, AL) pitched the final 2.2 getting five strikeouts.

Baseball hosts William Peace University JV today at 6pm for a single game. Saturday is their annual Youth Day when they host Lenoir CC in a doubleheader starting at 12pm, with game three of the series being Sunday at 1pm.
