Baseball hosted Brunswick this past weekend for a conference three-game series. The Trojans were able to take game one from #6 Brunswick before falling in a heartbreaking game two. The Dolphins dominated on Sunday in game three.
Before the start of the Saturday doubleheader, baseball hosted their annual Military Appreciation Day. The Posting of the Colors was done by the Fayetteville State Air Force ROTC followed by the National Anthem performed by Staff Sergeant Robbie McMillan. The first pitch was thrown out by Command Sergeant Major Daniel Scott.
Baseball is currently 26-19 overall and 22-12 in conference play heading into the last two weeks of regular season play.
FTCC vs. Brunswick
Game One- 7-6, Win
Brunswick got on the board first scoring one in the first and four in the third. The Trojans got back in the ball game scoring three runs in the bottom of the third.
The Trojans pulled within one in the seventh and took the lead in the eighth, but the Dolphins were able to push one across in the ninth to tie the game back up.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Trojans were able to load the bases with walks from Cole Feldman (Midlothian, VA), Eythan Reynolds (Pinehurst, NC) and Kristian Scales (Madison, NC). Then Phil Williams (Wilmington, NC) drew a four pitch walk for the RBI walk-off run.
Toufic Khabie (Aventura, FL) went 3-3 at the plate with three RBIs.
Brantley Hayward (Plant City, FL), Jordan Wright (Rocky Mount, NC) and Williams each had two hits.
Ricky Montalvo (Inman, SC) started on the bump throwing six innings with seven strikeouts. Reno Jeter (Asheville, NC) pitched the final three innings with two strikeouts.
Game Two- 3-5, Loss (11-innings)
The Dolphins again scored first in game two with one run crossing the plate in the second and then they pushed another across in the fifth.
The Trojans tied it up scoring two in the fifth. Scales reached on an error, Williams bunted for a single and Wright walked to load the bases. With two outs, Khabie hit a line drive to center field to plate both Trojan baserunners to tie the game.
The Dolphins took the lead back in the seventh, but the Trojans responded in the bottom of the inning to tie it back up with another RBI from Khabie.
With the game tied in the seven-inning contest, they went to extra innings with both teams going scoreless in the eighth, ninth and tenth innings. The Dolphins were able to get two across in the bottom of the eleventh to take the game 5-3.
Khabie went 3-5 at the plate with all three RBIs. Wright had two hits and Williams scored two runs.
Jacob Chavis (Pembroke, NC) went all seven regular innings with six strikeouts, allowing only one earned run. Chris Layton (Four Oaks, NC) threw the four extra innings, earning four strikeouts.
Game Three- 0-11, Loss (5-innings)
The Dolphins came back Sunday ready to hit against the Trojans. They scored 11 runs in the first five-innings to end the game early.
Wright had two hits and Khabie had one.
Israel Moore (Lakeville, MN) started on the bump going the first 2.1 innings. He was relieved by Tommy Parker (St. Pauls, NC), Garrett Arnold (Fuquay-Varina, NC) and Caden Jeffrey (Fayetteville, NC).
The Trojans will be traveling to Robeson on Wednesday for a conference mid-week starting at 6PM. They will be back at home this weekend hosting Richard Bland for their next three-game conference series. Saturday before the doubleheader will be Sophomore Day, come out and help us celebrate 10 Trojan Sophomores!
