Baseball hosted the Monarchs of Methodist University JV on Wednesday, March 20 in a single game. The Trojans trailed after the third inning until they tied the game up in the bottom of the ninth. They improve to 18-12 overall on the season after last nights win.

The Trojans got on top early scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning. Jaylon Woodley (Courtland, VA) led off with a single to right field. With one out, Zavion Ingram (Clayton, NC) doubled to left field to score Woodley from second base. 

The Monarchs scored five runs in the top of the third on three hits to take the lead. 

Two more runs were scored for the Trojans in the bottom of the third inning to pull within two runs. Derrick Hall (Fayetteville, NC) reached on an error to lead off the inning. With one out, Woodley singled to left field. Mason Turner (Lexington, SC) hit a fly ball to center field for the second out of the inning, but Hall tagged up to put runners on the corners for the Trojans. Ingram singled and both runners scored on the hit with the help of a Monarch error. 

The Monarchs scored four more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to add to their lead. 

The Trojans responded in the bottom of the sixth when they scored three runs to pull back within three. Ingram and Caleb Holland (Fayetteville, NC) drew back to back walks to lead off the inning. With one out, Cole McFatter (Goldsboro, NC) singled to right field to score Ingram. Aaron Graves (Upper Marlboro, MD) walked before Devin Outlaw (Jacksonville, FL) singled to plate two more Trojan runners before the last out of the inning. 

Both teams scored one run in the seventh. Turner reached on an error from the Monarch third basemen. With two outs, Wilmer Cuevas (Brentwood, NY) crushed a double over the left fielder’s head to score Turner. 

The Trojans continued to chip away in the bottom of the eighth scoring two runs to make it a one run game. Hall, Outlaw and Woodley hit back to back singles with one out to score one run. Outlaw scored on a passed ball before the third out to make the score 9-10 going into the ninth. 

The Monarchs scored one run in the top of the ninth to force the Trojans to score two to stay alive. 

The bottom of the ninth started off with a walk from Holland. With two outs, Kleiderman Camacho (Venezuela) smashed a two-run homerun over the right field fence to tie the game at 11 and force extra innings. 

The Monarchs made a threat in the top of the tenth, but stranded their runner on third base. 

Outlaw crushed a high fly ball over the left field fence in the first pitch of the bottom of the tenth to walk it off for the Trojans. 

The Trojans used five pitchers in this 10-inning game, giving up 13 hits and 11 runs.

Baseball travels to Bolivia this weekend for their next conference series with Brunswick Community College. The game times have change due to incoming weather for the weekend. They will play a doubleheader on Friday, March 22 starting at 12pm and the third game of the series remains Sunday, March 24 at 1pm.
