Baseball hosted the Hurricanes of Camp Community College on Wednesday, March 13 at JP Riddle Stadium in a non-conference game. The Trojans came out on top 13-3 ending the game in 7-innings. The Trojans advance to 15-11 overall and remain 8-4 in conference play. 

FTCC vs. Camp CC- (13-3, Win 7-innings)

After the first inning of play, the game was tied at one until the bottom of the third inning when the Trojans broke out and put two more runs on the board. 

The Trojans earned their one run in the top of the first inning from a school record breaking homerun from Drew Canody (Tampa, FL). This is Canody’s seventh homerun on the year with 30 games left in the regular season. 

Canody led off the third inning getting a rally started for the Trojans with a single. Mason Turner (Lexington, SC) hit a ground ball to the second baseman who went to get the lead runner, but Canody beat the throw. The Trojans ran a double steal to advance the runners to second and third with one out. Canody then scored on a passed ball to give the Trojans the lead. Zavion Ingram (Clayton, NC) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Turner from third base for the second run of the inning. 

The Trojans had their big inning to break the game open in the bottom of the fourth when they scored four runs. With one out, Aaron Graves (Upper Marlboro, MD) was hit by a pitch from a Hurricanes’ arm. Jaylon Woodley (Courtland, VA) followed with a double to center field for his first hit of the day to get an RBI. Canody put the ball in play and reached on a throwing error, which allowed Woodley to score from second base. Turner hit a single and Caleb Holland (Fayetteville, NC) blasted a double over the left fielder’s head to plate two more Trojan runners. 

Canody led off the bottom of the sixth inning with his third hit in the game and ended up on third base as he stole second base and advanced to third on a passed ball. Turner hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score yet another Trojan run. 

The Hurricanes chip away in the top of the seventh scoring one run to try and keep themselves alive. 

Ingram and Raymond Humphrey (Orlando, FL) started off the bottom of the seventh with back to back singles. Zamar Lewis (Dublin, NC) walked to load the bases for the Trojans. With one out, Woodley hit a single up the middle to score two. Canody is then hit by pitch to spark the rest of the inning. Lewis, Woodley and Canody all scored on wild pitches to end the game early in 7-innings. 

The Trojans used seven arms to staff the midweek win. Benjamin Rohrbach (Stafford, VA) gets the win giving up no runs and two hits with one strikeout improving to 2-0 on the season.

Canody was 3-4 with a homerun and two stolen bases, Holland went 2-3 with a double and Raymond Humphery was 2-3. Woodley led the Trojans with three RBIs and Turner had two stolen bases.

The Trojans are back at home this weekend for their next conference series as they host Pitt Community College. Saturday is Military Appreciation Day with festivities beginning at noon. There will be free hot dogs available to all military and their families and Chick-fil-a available for purchase along with camo hats and polos in our Trojan Fan Shop. On Sunday, the third game of the series will begin at 1pm.
