Design Club officers and advisors pose with Dr. Keen, Animal Services Director Elaine Smith – and the puppy and the kitten.

The student Design Club at Fayetteville Technical Community College donated $712 this week to Cumberland County Animal Services for the department’s injured animals fund.

Elaine Smith, director of Animal Services, said the donation is greatly appreciated.

Smith came to FTCC to receive the check and brought two residents of the department’s shelter with her – a blue brindle pitbull puppy and a black calico kitten.

Club officers posed for photos with Smith and FTCC President Dr. Larry Keen – as well as the puppy and the kitten. Both were to be available for adoption soon.

The club raised the money through a raffle of art supplies and 19 pieces of artwork at Fayetteville Comic Con earlier this month. The art supplies and artwork were donated by club officers and family members. The club officers manned a booth at Comic Con for two days. The club’s officers are: co-presidents Bert “Bo” Williams and Ellen Bokeny Hollman; vice president Kiley Carson; treasurer Heather Spexarth; secretary Rachel Horne; and photographer Henry O’Bryan.
