Softball traveled to Surry CC and Southwest VA CC for four games this past weekend. The Trojans fought against the Eagles but were unable to pull out a win.
They are currently 3-25 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
FTCC vs. Surry
Game One- 0-9, Loss (5-innings)
The Trojans had three hits in game one by three different players. Leah Benjamin (McColl, SC) had a double, Heather Haggard (Grapevine, TX) recorded a single and a stolen base and Maya Florido (Fayetteville, NC) had the third hit.
Alexis Walters (Fayetteville, NC) walked two times and had one stolen base.
Haggard pitched all four innings giving up nine hits and earning one strikeout.
Game Two- 0-13, Loss (5-innings)
In game two, the Trojans had three more hits. Raven Ross-Gillespie (West End, NC), Haggard and Florido each had one single.
Walters started on the mound for the Trojans throwing three innings and Leena Santana (Clayton, NC) pitched the final inning.
FTCC vs. Southwest Virginia
Game One- 11-13, Loss
The Eagles scored first with a run in the second inning, but the Trojans took the lead in the third. Southwest Virginia tied it back up scoring two runs in the bottom of the third before a big breakout 10-run inning in the fifth. The Trojans were able to get four more runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings, but were unable to score in the seventh.
Jaden Valdez (Fayetteville, NC), Haggard and Ross-Gillespie each had two hits. Florido had one hit with four RBIs and a double.
Halea Joines (Fayetteville, NC) and Valdez also each had a Trojan double.
Haggard pitched the first four innings with six strikeouts and Walters finished the game throwing the final two innings.
Game Two- 6-7, Loss
The Trojans were up early scoring two runs in the first. The Eagles tied it up in the third scoring two runs of their own. The lead bounced back and forth and the Trojans went into the bottom of the seventh up by one run. Southwest Virginia was able to get two across for a walk-off win.
Santana, Benjamin, Joines, Florido and Olivia Campbell (Grand Ledge, MI) each had two hits.
Walters pitched six full innings with Haggard coming on to end the game.
Softball is away this week traveling to Louisburg on Thursday for a 4PM doubleheader and then they will head to Catawba Valley for another doubleheader starting at 2PM on Saturday.
