Baseball hosted the Bulldogs of Pitt CC for a conference series this past weekend. The Trojans took game on on Saturday and game three on Sunday to secure two more conference wins.
The Trojans are currently 8-9 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
FTCC vs. Pitt:
Game One- 4-3, Win
The Bulldogs scored early with a solo homerun in the top of the second inning to take the lead. The Trojans didn’t plate their first run until the bottom of the fifth when they pushed two across to take the lead.
Koa Kloehs (Suwannee, GA) lead off the inning with a hit by pitch and Cole Feldman (Midlothian, VA) bunted to put runners on first and second base. With two outs, Eythan Reynolds (Pinehurst, NC) smacked a double to the right center gap to score both baserunners.
The Trojans added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to increase their lead. Feldman hit a lead off single before Phil Williams (Wilmington, NC) doubled to score him. Reynolds then singled for another RBI.
The Bulldogs pulled the game within one run when they scored two in the top of the eight, but the Trojans were able to hold on with their 4-3 lead.
Ricky Montalvo (Inman, SC) earned the win for the Trojans pitching 6.2 innings, giving up only one run with four strikeouts. Israel Moore (Lakeville, MN) came on in relief to finish the seventh and Jackson Sherron (Wendell, NC) threw the final two innings getting the save with three strikeouts.
Reynolds lead the offense going 3-4 with three RBIs.
Game Two-1-14, Loss (5-innings)
The Trojans got down early giving up three runs in the first and the Bulldogs continued to add in the third, fourth and fifth innings to end the game early.
The Trojans scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning. Jerremy Miller (Keystone Heights, FL) and Reynolds walked before Brantley Hayward (Plant City, FL) singled to earn an RBI.
Hayward went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI.
The Trojans used five arms on the mound with Jacob Chavis (Prospect, NC) taking the loss.
Game Three- 5-2, Win
The Bulldogs struck first scoring one in the top of the first, but the Trojans responded with two runs in the third and two in the fourth to lead 4-1.
Isaiah Street (Charlotte, NC) and Williams drew back to back walks to start the inning. With one out, Xander Clark (Chicago, IL) hit a line drive single to right field to score Street. Hayward hit an RBI ground ball to plate the second run.
In the fourth, Feldman smashed a two-run shot over the left field fence to increase the Trojan lead.
Both teams scored one run in the fifth and the Trojans were able to hold on through the seventh to win 5-2.
Reno Jeter (Asheville, NC) started on the bump throwing 2.2 innings of work with five strikeouts. Caden Jeffrey (Fayetteville, NC) came on in relief in the the third to take the win throwing 1.2 innings. Moore came in to pitch the last 2.2 innings to get the save and striking out two.
The Trojans had six stolen bases in the game.
Baseball will travel to Catawba Valley on Wednesday for a non-conference game at 6PM. Then they will head to Brunswick for their next conference series on Saturday and Sunday.
