Women’s Basketball hosted Richard Bland for a conference game last Tuesday night and came out on top 64-45. Then they hosted Southwest Virginia on Wednesday and fell by four points.
The Trojans are 9-6 overall and 6-5 in conference play. This puts them right in the middle of the Region 10 pack with plenty of games left to move up in standing.
FTCC vs. Richard Bland: 64-45, Win
The Trojans came out big in the first quarter and scored 17 points and they continued to press their lead in the second going into halftime up by 12 points. The Statesmen gave it a good run in the fourth quarter but were not able to surpass the Trojan’s already set lead from the start.
Amire Banks (Mt. Vernon, GA) lead the Trojans with 13 points and four assists. Elyssa Phillips (Raleigh, NC) and Aaliyah McRae (Fayetteville, NC) each had 11 points. Taleah Meadows (Baltimore, MD) had 10 points, five rebounds and five steals.
Tateyawna Faison (Mount Olive, NC), Alana Hines (Fayetteville, NC) and Keara Duncan (Fayetteville, NC) each had five rebounds. Phillips lead the defense with six rebounds.
FTCC vs. Southwest Virginia: 64-68, Loss
The Trojans were down by 15 points after the Eagles had a big first quarter off the bus, but were able to pull within five at the half. The Trojans continued to come back and cut the lead in the half going into the fourth only down by three. The Eagles were able to hold onto their lead by four at the final buzzer.
Banks, Phillips and Hannah Reames (Bishopville, SC) each had 11 points for the Trojan offense.
Nahmiah Aekins (Hope Mills, NC) had 10 rebounds with eight points. Faison added eight rebounds with six points.
Banks had five assists and two blocks. Reames had two steals and two blocks. McRae added three assists and six rebounds.
The Trojans are back at home on Thursday night when they host Louisburg College for a conference game at 6PM. They will head to Wake Tech on Saturday to close the week out with a 2PM tip-off. All home games are $10 admission (free with FTCC ID or children 12 & under) and played at Reid Ross Classical School: 3200 Ramsey Street.
