FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville Tech women’s basketball opened the season with a 117-24 loss to visiting Wake Tech on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

The outcome wasn’t unexpected, as the Trojans (0-1) entered the season with a new coach in Henry Cowan, who was installed in October, and an entirely new roster.

With the players given little time to build chemistry, the young Trojan lineup struggled to move the ball on offense, resulting in a slew of turnovers and transition baskets for a speedy Eagle lineup.

Makyiah Mitchell, who is signed with FTCC’s softball program, led the Trojans with nine points, including a three and a 2-for-2 performance from the free-throw line.

Point guard Zaniya Melrose-Williams added five points, and forward Rhiannon Hooper scored four.

The Trojans go on the road for their next contest, traveling to Lenoir CC on Nov. 12.
