Last Tuesday night was Play4Kay night at Reid Ross Classical when both basketball teams wore pink and brought attention to cancer awareness before each game. The Women’s team opened the doubleheader with a conference game against Guilford Tech and the Men followed with a conference game against Cleveland. Both teams came out with a win to put the cherry on top of a fantastic Play4Kay night.
FTCC Women’s Basketball vs. Guilford Tech: 84-64, Win
Multiple players scored double digits for the Trojans this night in their 20 point victory over the Titans.
Tateyawna Faison (Mount Olive, NC) and Amire Banks (Mt. Vernon, GA) each had 15 points. Elyssa Phillips (Raleigh, NC) and Nahmiah Aekins (Hope Mills, NC) each had 14 points. Aaliyah McRae (Fayetteville, NC) scored 12 and Hannah Reames (Bishopville, SC) dropped 11.
Alana Hines (Fayetteville, NC) and Faison each had five rebounds and Denaira Williams (Fayetteville, NC), Banks, Aekins and Reames each added four rebounds.
Banks and Phillips had five assists each and McRae added three steals.
Faison shot 7-7 from the free throw line.
FTCC Men’s Basketball vs. Cleveland: 96-90, Win
The Trojans scored 48 points in each quarter while the Yeti’s scored 45 points in each quarter to put the Trojans ahead by six.
Ray Mitchell (Jacksonville, NC) had a standout game with 23 points, 19 rebounds, four blocks, two steals and shot a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line.
Cameron Burns (Charlotte, NC) also had 23 points with six assists.
Armaan Benitez (Philadelphia, PA) had 13 points and Kaleb James (Stedman, NC) scored 12. Trevion Lewis (Atlanta, GA) had nine rebounds and eight points.
Both teams will travel to Louisburg on Thursday night for their final regular season games of the year. The Women will tip-off at 4:30 and the Men will follow around 6:30.
