Softball hosted the Yeti’s of Cleveland CC on Sunday for a conference doubleheader. The Trojans took came one for their first conference win of the season and the Yeti’s came back in game two to split the day. 

The Trojans are currently 3-19 overall and 1-7 in conference play. 

FTCC vs. Cleveland:

Game One- 8-4, Win

The Yeti’s scored first in the top of the first, but the Trojans responded in the bottom of the third with four runs. 

Jaden Valdez (Fayetteville, NC) and Heather Haggard (Grapevine, TX) started the inning off with back to back singles. Raven Ross-Gillespie (West End, NC) then hit a fly ball single to the outfield to score both runners. Leah Benjamin (McColl, SC) kept the inning going with a triple to center field for an RBI and scored herself on a passed ball. 

The Trojans came up their next at bat and did the same thing doubling their score. 

Valdez drew a one-out walk and Ross-Gillespie hit her second single of the game to earn another RBI. Benjamin reached on an error to score two more Trojan baserunners and Olivia Campbell (Grand Ledge, MI) hit her in on a two-out single to left field. 

The Trojans had 10 hits in the game, three coming from both Haggard and Ross-Gillespie. 

Haggard pitched all seven innings for the Trojans earning the win. She had five strikeouts and only gave up five hits.

Game Two- 2-12, Loss (5-innings)

The Yeti’s came out a different hitting team in the second game, scoring three right off the bat. 

The Trojans scored their first run in the bottom of the first. Haggard singled and Benjamin doubled to score her. 

The other Trojan run was scored in the third when Liz LeRouge (Spring Lake, NC) walked and Valdez hit her on a single to center. 

Haggard pitched again for the Trojans throwing five innings with four strikeouts.
