Students, Faculty and Staff,
Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, is currently investigating a security incident of its systems. As you probably have seen on the news, that incident has affected Canvas student and faculty accounts nationwide – including FTCC. Canvas continues to engage in a forensic analysis of the incident and we hope they will soon share with us the extent of the incident. At this time, the information Canvas has shared with the College is limited, but rest assured that as soon as we have information we believe will be important to you, we will share it.
What to Watch For
Incidents like this can sometimes lead to an increase in scam or “phishing” emails and text messages. These messages are designed to look legitimate and may appear to come from our college, your professors, financial institutions, or delivery services. They often create urgency and may ask you to click a link, open an attachment, or provide personal information.
How to Help Keep Your Accounts Safe
Please take a moment to review these important reminders:
- Never share your username, password, or authentication codes (FTCC will never ask for them).
- Do not click on links or open attachments you were not expecting.
- Be cautious of messages that seem urgent, threatening, or “too good to be true.”
If you receive a suspicious message or notice any unusual activity, please report it immediately to the IT Service Desk (help@faytechcc.edu)
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Fayetteville Technical Community College
