Baseball traveled to Kinston, NC to play Lenoir CC in a three game conference series. The Trojans took both games on Friday and came back on Saturday to sweep the series over the previous number one seed in Region 10 DII East baseball.
The Trojans are currently 19-14 overall and 15-7 in conference play.
FTCC vs. Lenoir:
Game One- 11-8, Win
The Trojans got on the board first and continued to score to keep their lead throughout the whole game.
Cole Feldman (Midlothian, VA) lead the Trojan offense going 4-5 with four RBIs, two runs scored, a homerun and a double. Jordan Wright (Rocky Mount, NC) added another homerun with two RBIs.
Eythan Reynolds (Pinehurst, NC) and Brantley Hayward (Plant City, FL) each had two hits with a double. Kristian Scales (Madison, NC) had two RBIs with a hit.
Ricky Montalvo (Inman, SC) started on the bump throwing five innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win for the Trojans. Chris Layton (Four Oaks, NC) came on in relief for two innings followed by Tommy Parker (St. Pauls, NC). Jackson Sherron (Wendell, NC) pitched the final 1.1 innings, facing seven batters with two strikeouts to earn the save.
Game Two- 6-5, Win (8-innings)
The Trojans were down by two going into the fourth inning where they cut the lead in half from a sac fly by Feldman.
The Trojans took the lead in the top of the sixth when they scored three but Lenoir came back to tie it up in the bottom of the seventh.
The game was pushed into extra innings and the Trojans plated one in the top of the eighth to take the lead back. Reynolds walked to leadoff the inning and scored from a fielder’s choice hit by Scales.
Reynolds went 2-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, a double and a walk. Scales had two RBIs with one hit.
Jacob Chavis (Pembroke, NC) started on the mound going five innings. Graysen Stafford (Stedman, NC) came on in relief in the sixth to earn the win throwing two innings. Sherron came back in to close out the eighth facing only three batters with one strikeout to get his second save of the day.
Game Three- 14-6, Win (8-innings)
The Trojans got on the board first with a run in the second inning. The Lancers took the lead in the bottom of the inning with a three-run homerun but the Trojans were able to scrape back to take the lead and continued to hit to end the game early in eight innings.
Dylan Vazquez (Bega Baja, PR), Jerremy Miller (Keystone Heights, FL) and Scales each had a homerun in game three.
Hayward went 4-5 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a double. Miller was 3-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.
Phil Williams (Wilmington, NC), Vazquez, Wright and Scales all had two hits for the Trojans.
Israel Moore (Lakeville, MN) pitched the first six innings earning six strikeouts and the win. Chase Paullin (Fuquay-Varina, NC) threw the seventh inning and Layton closed out the final inning.
Baseball is back at home this week as they host Robeson for a conference game on Wednesday at 3:30PM. Then they will host Bryant & Stratton for a three game series starting Friday. First pitch is set for 1PM. All home games are played at JP Riddle Stadium: 2823 Legion Road and admission is $10 (free with FTCC ID or children 12 & under).
