Lisa Johnson Tree Dedication

Members of FTCC’s Dental and Allied Health programs held a tree dedication ceremony June 19, 2023, in honor of late instructor Lisa Johnson.

Members of FTCC’s Dental Hygiene program remembered longtime instructor Lisa Johnson earlier this week with the dedication of a tree on the lawn next to the Health Technologies Center.

Johnson served as an instructor for 21 years, retiring in 2019. She passed away in November 2022 after battling breast cancer.

FTCC Dental Chair Michelle Ping said Johnson positively impacted the lives of hundreds of students and advisees during her time as an instructor.

“Lisa’s love for teaching was apparent the moment students stepped foot into her classroom,” Ping said. “Extremely knowledgeable and well prepared, she captivated her audience with personality and ‘Johnsonisms,’ which were Lisa’s way to help students remember difficult material.”

Johnson’s husband, Jonathan, as well as FTCC Dean of Allied Health Michelle Walden, instructors Steven Tucker and Kim Utley, and Ping each spoke at the dedication service, sharing stories about Johnson.

“When we thought how best to remember Lisa, we wanted to have something that would stand the test of time, just like the knowledge she passed along to her students, and felt an Autumn Brilliance Tree would be fitting,” Ping said.

The tree is accompanied by a plaque recognizing Johnson and “in honor of unparalleled excellence in teaching and dedication to the FTCC Dental Hygiene Program.”
