Volleyball spent opening weekend of their season in Wilmington, North Carolina at the Cape Fear Invitational. They started both days with a tough loss, but came back to win game two each day. The 2025 squad is sophomore heavy this season, having a lot of maturity on the court with three transfers and five returners.
Day 1:
FTCC vs. St. Johns River State College: 0-3, Loss
The Trojans stood tough against the Vikings during the first two sets, dropping each only by two and three points. Freshman, Kyrie Willis (Cypress, TX), led the Trojans with nine kills in her first collegiate match. Ella Ferrie (Stanchfield, MN) added seven kills and seven digs along with Addie Hudson (Wade, NC) who had seven digs.
Freshman, Bre Harrison (Greenwood, SC) led the Trojans on defense with four assisted blocks and Sammy Harless (St. George, UT) added three. Taylor Detrant (Keizer, OR) had 15 assists.
The Trojans in their first outing had 29 kills, 33 digs and 25 assists.
FTCC vs. Walters State CC: 3-2, Win
After dropping the first set by 13 points, the Trojans rallied back to a thrilling 29-27 win in set two. The Senator’s took set three to pull ahead but the Trojans again rallied back in set four to tie the match back up at two all. The Trojans pulled through with a 15-11 win in set five to secure their first win of the 2025 season against an NJCAA DI team.
Willis, again, led the Trojan offense with 17 kills to set a personal record for herself this season. Ferrie was right behind with 12 kills and 15 digs. Detrant set up 40 assists and had four service aces in the match.
On defense, Hudson led with 28 digs with several other players earning double digit digs as well. Kayloni Eddings (Pembroke, NC) had two assisted blocks.
In game two, the Trojans had 51 kills, 84 digs, 47 assists and 13 service aces.
Day 2:
FTCC vs. Montgomery College (MD): 0-3, Loss
The Raptors came out strong in set one, outscoring the Trojans by 11 points before taking the following two sets. The Trojans put up a good fight, but fell short in the remaining sets.
Willis had six kills and Harrison added five. Detrant had 12 assists and nine digs. Hudson and Gracie Moore (Henderson, NC) each added six digs. Farrah Keith (Silverton, OR) served up three aces.
Harrison, Harless and Eddings each had two assisted blocks.
The Trojans finished the match with 18 kills, 17 assists and 34 digs.
FTCC vs. College of Southern Maryland: 3-1, Win
The Trojans bounced back from their morning game and took the first set against the Hawks. Dropping only set two, they pulled out a 3-1 win over the College of Southern Maryland.
Willis topped her previous kill record with 19 and Ferrie added nine. Madison Carter (Benson, NC) had 24 assists and Detrant added 19. Ferrie had 15 digs and Moore had 11.
The Trojans had 10 service aces in the match, four from Willis and three coming from Detrant.
The Trojans will be at neighboring Methodist University for a scrimmage on Wednesday before they continue with regular season games when they head to USC-Lancaster on Friday.
