Our Teacher Preparation pathways are designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year university and earn a bachelor’s degree, leading to becoming a licensed K–12 teacher. Whether you want to teach elementary school, middle grades, or high school, FTCC will help you build a strong foundation and transfer with confidence.
Choose Your Pathway
FTCC offers two associate degree options for future educators:
Associate in Arts
Teacher Preparation
Program Code: A1010T
Ideal if you plan to teach: Elementary (K–5); English, Social Studies, or other humanities at the middle or high school level
Goal: This pathway emphasizes liberal arts, social sciences, and communication—perfect for aspiring non-STEM K–12 teachers.
Associate in Science
Teacher Preparation
Program Code: A1040T
Ideal if you plan to teach: Math, Science, or Career & Technical Education (CTE) at the middle or high school level
Goal: This program focuses on STEM courses, preparing students to become licensed K–12 math, science, or CTE teachers.

What You’ll Learn
In both pathways, you’ll complete:
- General Education Courses (English, math, science, humanities, etc.)
- Education Courses:
- EDU 187: Teaching and Learning for All
- EDU 216: Foundations of Education
- EDU 250: Teacher Licensure Preparation
- EDU 279: Literacy Development & Instruction
You’ll explore how children learn, what effective teaching looks like, and how schools function—all while earning credits that fully transfer toward a bachelor’s degree and K–12 teacher licensure.

Our Teacher Prep degrees are part of the Uniform Articulation Agreement with the UNC System, ensuring a seamless transfer experience to schools such as:
- Fayetteville State University
- UNC Pembroke
- UNC Wilmington
- NC State University
- …and more!
✅ To stay eligible for transfer and licensure:
- Maintain a 2.7 GPA or higher
- Earn a grade of C or better in all courses
