Central Sterile Processing Course
Course Description
This course is designed to introduce the primary responsibilities of a central sterile technician. The course includes practical applications of learned concepts and procedures. Topics include preparation, storage, distribution of instruments, supplies and equipment, quality assurance and inventory management. Upon completion, students should be able to apply the principles of sterilization/disinfection in the workplace, as well as the principles of distribution of instruments/supplies/equipment

Certified Medication Aide
Course Description
This course prepares graduates to meet the training requirements for becoming qualified as a Medication Aide. The course will cover the six rights of medication administration for non-licensed personnel. Topics will include medication administration via the oral, topical and instillation routes, medical asepsis, hand hygiene, terminology, and legal implications. Upon successful completion, students will be able to take the competency exam and demonstrate skills necessary to qualify for listing on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry.

Students must be able to read and communicate in English effectively. Students must have good computer literacy skills to be successful in this program.

Certified Nursing Assistant I - Refresher
Course Description
The CNA I Refresher course provides an opportunity for nursing assistants to update their knowledge of personal care and basic nursing skills needed for care of patients. Upon completion of the course and a skills/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to put in an application for listing on the Nursing Aide I Registry, through the Division of Facility Services, as a North Carolina Community College Refresher Course candidate.

In all employment settings, the listed Nursing Assistant II will work under the direction and supervision of licensed personnel.

Cardiovascular Monitor Technician
Course Description
This course is designed and approved to prepare the student to become a cardiovascular monitor technician. The course will cover the anatomy and physiology of the heart, principles of EKG, dysrhythmia recognition of sinus, junctional/atrial rhythms, heart blocks and bundle branches and ventricular ectopy rhythms. Skills will include operating EKG equipment, plus running and mounting strips, and understanding the basics of capnography as it relates to heart functions. Students are required to complete online assignments as well as attend class as scheduled.

Nurse Aide Level I (CNA)
Students must attend the 1st day of class. Failure to attend by the 2nd day of class will result in automatic withdrawal from the program

Flu and COVID required by clinical facility. Some vaccinations take 30 days (about 4 and a half weeks) or more to process the results, so it is important you do not wait to complete this requirement. ATTENTION: This program will use Blackboard as part of the teaching process. Homework, quizzes, and tests are given weekly. Anticipated preparation time outside of class is 5-8 hours per week.
Non-compliance with ANY deadline listed above can result in dismissal from the program.
This course prepares the student to provide basic health care to include assist with hygiene, nutrition, social/emotional support, and fundamentals of nursing. These skills and knowledge will prepare the student to sit for the NC State CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) Registry Exam at an additional fee.

Course Requirements
- You must be able to read, understand and communicate effectively in English to participate in this class. Students will be required to care for clients in lab and clinical settings (and must be capable of lifting, transferring, and positioning patients with no weight limitations using both hands to perform tasks, reacting to emergencies, walking fast; this is not an exhaustive list). Reasonable accommodations assigned for the theory section of the course do not necessarily transfer to lab and clinical. A separate designation must be established for each part of the course. Accommodations deemed to threaten client safety are not considered reasonable and will not be granted. If you have a medical condition (including pregnancy), you need a note from your physician stating you have NO RESTRICTIONS in the class, lab, and/or clinical to continue with the program.

- Artificial nails and/or long natural nails are not allowed and must be removed before the start of the 1st week of class. Tattoos covered during class, lab, and clinical. Hair is to be neat, clean, off the collar, out of eyes, and no extreme colors (ex: purple, green, pink, blue, orange). Large, loud hair bows/head bands, flowers, or hair clips are not acceptable. Cosmetics should be applied lightly. Perfume or scented lotions are not allowed in class/lab/clinicals. Piercings may only be worn in the ears and are studs only. No bar earrings allowed. No loop or long dangling earrings allowed.

- Personal Characteristics: Must be able to remain calm and in control during stressful and emergency situations. Must maintain good interpersonal skills with peers and accept appropriate criticism. Must be able to organize and prioritize workload in line with established guidelines. Must show respect, honesty, and integrity in the classroom, lab, and clinical areas and with all Healthcare team members at all times.
- Physical Characteristics and Work Conditions: May be exposed to communicable diseases (HIV, Hepatitis, etc.). May be exposed to unpleasant sights, odors, and materials. May be exposed to bodily fluids, chemicals, and disinfectants. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time without relief. Must be able to lift heavy equipment/objects up to 50 pounds and be able to transfer patients independently if necessary. Must practice good body mechanics in all physical activities when in the lab and clinical area. Required to assist with lifting and positioning patients. Must be able to walk, run and move quickly in a safe manner to provide support during emergency situations. Must be able to hear normal conversation within a range up to 20 feet. Must be able to use both hands to assemble supplies and equipment and to reposition patients. Regularity of breaks and lunchtime are not guaranteed. Must be free from communicable disease (TB, Hepatitis, HIV, etc.) Must be able to report for clinical rotations on time.
- REFUND POLICY: If you withdraw prior to the 1st day of class you may be eligible for a 100% refund. If you withdraw on or after the 1st day of class, you may be eligible for a 75% refund of the registration fee if requested prior to the 10% date. After the 10% date there are no refunds given. Once the class begins, the insurance fee is non-refundable. It is your responsibility to request a refund if you drop a class or are withdrawn. You must come to the Neill Currie Building, Room 8 to complete the drop form. NOTE: Your refund will take 2-3 weeks to be processed.
I have read the above requirements and understand each must be fulfilled to continue in the Nurse Aide Level I (CNA) program. No exceptions are made to these requirements. I am aware if fail to meet the requirements, I will be dismissed from the program.
Patient Care Technician
Course Description
The Patient Care Technician is an integral member of the health care delivery team and provides care for hospital patients, long-term care patients, and dialysis centers. Patient Care Technicians need strong communication skills, empathy and must be assertive to patient’s needs. It will also discuss the implications of healthcare and the concepts of verbal and nonverbal communication. The course length is 396 hours.
Upon completing the program, the student should better understand Anatomy and Physiology and patient pain management, including comfort, rest, and sleep. Students will also know how to complete Phlebotomy venipuncture correctly, capillary blood draws, EKG, and dialysis skills and techniques.
This course will include class and lab procedures to help students succeed and prepare them for the AMT (American Medical Technologist) National Registry exam.

Course Description
This course prepares the student to draw blood specimens from patients, using needles, for the purpose of testing and analyzing blood. Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be prepared to take the National Phlebotomy Certification Examination. Please be aware that sticking your classmates is required during lab sessions.

This course prepares the student to become a multi-skilled front and back office professional. Upon completion of Part 1 and Part 2, students will be able to sit for a National Medical Assistant examination through AMT.

- A copy of current immunizations records with all necessary shots will be required before students can enter the clinical site: MMR, Varicella, PPD, HEP B, Tdap, Flu shot and COVID Vaccine
- High School Diploma/GED/Transcript
- CPR card (must be American Heart Association’s Healthcare Provider; offered at FTCC) cannot expire during class dates
- Required Supplies: (required by start of the 2nd week of class)
- An analog watch with a second hand (non-digital)
- Blood pressure cuff with storage bag (non-digital)
- Stethoscope
- 3-Ring binder (3 inch)
