Specialized Areas
Writing and Communications Lab
o Writing can be tricky, but the Writing and Communications instructors can help you navigate and understand your writing assignment. The Writing and Communications instructors tutor students who need specific academic assistance with writing, grammar, or formatting. Students can receive one-on-one assistance from the WCL instructors, Dr. Derwin Campbell, Ms. Painter, and Mrs. Tuley. All instructors can provide suggestions that encourage independent writing practices and academic learning.

The most popular tutoring areas are creating a thesis statement, writing an essay, and formatting APA.
Science Lab
o Periodic tables can be fun! Come to the center where Mrs. Day makes learning fun! Mrs. Day can help you understand the periodic table concepts that need more explanation in biology, chemistry, anatomy, etc. In the science area of the center, you will have access to bones, microscopes, a skeletal body, a muscle man, and many more resources.

Cellular respiration, photosynthesis, and muscle cell contraction are the most popular tutoring areas.
Math Lab
o Mathematics can be complicated to understand, but our math instructors can help! Come to the Student Learning Center and receive assistance from Harvey Marrow. He enjoys helping students continue to grow their academic skills in math. In addition to one-on-one help, there are textbooks, solution manuals, calculators, and handouts to help you excel in the subject area.

The Student Learning Center at FTCC is designed to provide FREE supplemental instruction to students enrolled in Curriculum courses. The Student Learning Center instructors provide individualized and small-group instruction to students in a wide range of subjects.
Who may use the Student Learning Center?
The Student Learning Center is FREE and available for students who are enrolled in academic courses at FTCC.
Where is the Student Learning Center located?
The Student Learning Center is located on the first floor of the Library Building, Room 127. As soon as you enter through the doors of the Student Learning Center, you will be greeted by a staff member who will assist you in enrolling in the Center for the current semester. A valid FTCC Student Photo ID is required to enroll.
When is the Student Learning Center open?
Monday-Thursday 7am-7 pm
Friday 7am-5 pm
How do I enroll in the Student Learning Center?
There are two ways to enroll:
Students enrolled in academic courses at FTCC can ask their instructor to submit a Direct Referral Form. The student can then come to the Student Learning Center to complete the enrollment process.
Students can also visit the Student Learning Center on their own and complete enrollment at the front desk. A Referral Form will be sent to their instructor once the student logs into the system.
* Students must re-enroll each semester.
What can I expect after Student Learning Center enrollment?
After enrolling in the Student Learning Center, you will log in at the front desk computer. Then you will find a seat at a table or computer to start your work. When you are ready for assistance, let an instructor or front desk staff member know. The instructor or staff member will assess your specific needs for the visit. *You will be required to log in and out each time you use the Center.
What about Distance Learning Students?
Distance Learners (online students) enrolled in FTCC Curriculum courses are welcome to use the Student Learning Center. NetTutor Online Tutoring Service is also available for distance learners at no additional cost.
