Alexander Johnson, a 27-year-old Fayetteville native, graduated from FTCC on May 12, 2023, with an associate degree in Advertising & Graphic Design. After feeling unfulfilled in a series of retail jobs, Johnson enrolled to gain employable skills.

“I worked in very poor retail jobs. I wanted to expand my career opportunities. I’ve always liked art and creating things.

“I considered going to college right after high school, but I was scared. My grades in high school weren’t very good. But I was tired of working retail jobs, and I wanted some skills. For starters, I could afford FTCC because of a Pell Grant. Second, it’s only a two-year college instead of a four-year. I’d taken a tour here before so I was familiar with the campus. The teachers here are really good, and the environment is great. I’m applying to different job opportunities.”
