FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville Tech’s women basketball team has announced a 12-player roster for the 2021-22 season.

The Trojans begin the season Nov. 3 at home, welcoming Region 10 opponent Wake Tech to Reid Ross Classical School in the teams’ season opener.

FTCC’s roster will include two returners and 10 newcomers, as the team looks to rebuild following a winless, COVID-shortened season in the spring.

First-year head coach Peace Easton said the new roster will offer depth across all positions, a luxury that last season’s seven-player roster lacked.

“I’m going to have some depth to work with this year with us having 12 players on the roster,” Easton said. “Our athleticism is going to be a factor.”

The Trojans return two sophomores, Alyssa Borja and Maya Carver.

Borja, a 5-foot-8 forward, led the Trojans in scoring last season, averaging 15 points per game and pulling down 6.5 rebounds.

Carver, a 5-foot-2 guard, was a consistent presence in the backcourt for the Trojans last season and will bring experience to this year’s young roster.

“Alyssa and Maya have experience playing within our conference,” Easton said. “They have some insight into the competition and understand the speed of the game, which is something that our players coming straight out of high school will have to adjust to.”

Joining Carver in the backcourt are freshmen Madeleine Smith, Ahnasti Bridges, Latanya Peterkin and I’Reona Johnson. Sophomore Emony Johnson joins the team as a guard.

Available in the post will be freshmen Lyanah Molyneaux, Morgan Brady, Allison Hamlin, Mikayla Harris and Zykia Matthews.

Easton said most of the roster can play multiple positions, pointing to the 5-foot-8 Harris as an example of the team’s versatility.

“We have players who can play one through four,” she said. “They’re just that strong. For example, Mikayla is unique in that she can play point guard, but she’s tough and can post up.”

Easton said the team will lean on its speed inside for advantage, noting that even the 6-foot-1 Matthews has speed to spare.

“Zykia is insanely quick and mobile inside,” Shepard said. “We’re going to have speed through the lineup this season.”
