SANFORD, N.C. — Fayetteville Tech volleyball opened its 2019 with a win on the road at Central Carolina Community College on Friday.

The Trojans (1-0) rolled through the first two sets, taking each by a score of 25-15 before snuffing out a late spark by the Cougars (0-1) to secure the match with a 25-23 third set.

Freshman outside hitter Alexis Spexarth led the Trojans up front, recording a team-high 10 kills. Sophomore middle Da’Nya McPhatter notched eight kills, and McKenzie Smith posted seven. McPhatter and Smith, a sophomore out of Lehi, Utah, each had two blocks.

The Trojans put on a stalwart defensive display, tallying 45 digs. Sophomore Krislyn Bullard posted 10, and Paige Stalnaker had nine. Anna Grey Barbour notched eight digs and served up four aces.

The Trojans take the court Tuesday at Louisburg, the second in a three-match away stretch to start the season.
