FTCC Foundation has received a grant in the amount of $20,000 from the Duke Energy Foundation to support the lineworker program at Fayetteville Technical Community College. The funds will be used for the following for the FTCC lineworker program:

  • Fund recruitment and outreach activities to reach diverse and underrepresented students who are interested in careers as electric lineworkers
  • Provide scholarships and financial aid for underrepresented students
  • Purchase safety gear, tools, and training materials

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Duke Energy Foundation for this transformative grant. This funding will propel the FTCC Electric Lineworker Program to new heights, enabling us to provide more students with the industry-aligned training and expertise they need to thrive in this essential field,” said FTCC President Dr. Mark Sorrells. “This investment will not only empower students from underrepresented communities to achieve their full potential but also contribute to the development of a robust workforce of skilled lineworkers in our region.”

FTCC’s Electric Lineworker Basic Training program is a 368-hour, 12-week course that trains students in electrical safety, pole-climbing techniques, equipment assembly and function, truck operations and circuit voltages.

The course is designed for current and potential electric utility employees. The training can pertain to contractors, cooperative electric, and public and private electrical utilities.
