Baseball hosted the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College this past weekend in a three game conference series. The Trojans took game one and game two before dropping game three. 

FTCC vs. Bryant & Stratton- Saturday, March 2 (10-0, Win 5-innings)

The Trojans shutout the Bobcats in game one allowing no runs and only three hits in five innings of play. Adam Smith (Raleigh, NC) took the win for the Trojans throwing 3.1 innings and striking out three. Benjamin Rohrbach (Stafford, VA) came in for relief finishing the last 1.2 innings of work. 

The Trojans scored their first two runs in the second inning on four hits. Zavion Ingram (Clayton, NC) started the inning off with an infield single and Derrick Hall (Fayetteville, NC) walked to put two runners on for Devin Outlaw (Jacksonville, FL). Outlaw punched a single to left field to score one, which was followed by a Mason Turner (Lexington, SC) single to put runners on the corners for the Trojans. Jaylon Woodley (Courtland, VA) laid a perfect bunt down the third base line to score Hall and put the Trojans on top 2-0. 

Three more runs were scored in the third for the Trojans. The Bobcats started off the inning with an error to put a Trojan baserunner on. With one out, Ingram gets his second single of the day followed by another Hall walk. With the bases loaded, Kleiderman Camacho (Venezuela) scored on a pass ball for the Trojan’s third run in the game who reached on an error earlier in the inning. With two outs, Turner hit a high fly ball off the fence in center field for a stand up triple to plate two more. Woodley singled up the middle to score Turner before the third out of the inning. 

The Trojans get the final four runs they need in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early at ten. Ingram led off the inning with his third single of the day to stay perfect in game one. Hall is then hit by a pitch to reach base free for the third time. The Trojans execute a double steal forcing the Bobcats catcher to over throw third base allowing both runs to score. With two outs, Woodley singles and Drew Canody (Tampa, FL) sends a line drive to the center field fence for the second Trojan triple of the game. Caleb Holland (Fayetteville, NC) singles up the middle to score Canody for the tenth run of the game. 

Ingram went 3-3 for the Trojans, scoring three runs and stealing three bases. Turner and Woodley each had two RBIs.

FTCC vs. Bryant & Stratton- Sunday, March 3 (9-1, Win & 3-7, Loss)

Game one- 9-1, win

Holland threw six of the seven innings for the Trojans giving up one run and five hits. Rob Willis (Montgomery, AL) came in to close for the allowing two hits and no runs. 

The Trojans started off hot in game one with five hits in the first inning scoring three runs. Turner led off with a single followed by a Woodley walk. Canody and Holland had back to back singles to score the two baserunners. With Canody on third base, Holland got himself in a run down between first and second base to make the defense get him out allowing a run to score. The Trojans have two more hits from Wilmer Cuevas (Brentwood, NY) and Markey Purvis (Bennettsville, SC), but cannot plate anymore runs. 

Two more runs were scored for the Trojans in the fourth inning from a two-run shot over the left field fence from Hall, his first career homerun. 

The Trojans plated four more runs in the game, two in the fifth and two in the sixth. Holland, Turner and Canody all had doubles to secure the win. 

Canody led the offense for the Trojans going 3-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Game two- 3-7, loss

In the third game of the series, the Trojans pitching staff gave up ten hits and seven runs to allow the Bobcats to take the win. 

The Trojans made a little run in the bottom of the ninth to pull within four. Canody led off the inning getting hit by a pitch, followed by pinch hitter Oscar Rodriguez-Marin (Clinton, NC) also getting hit. Camacho grounded out to the first baseman to move the runners before Purvis hit a double off the right field fence to clear the bases. 

Turner added another triple to the stats in game three for the Trojan offense.

The next home game for baseball is Tuesday, March 5 at 4pm against Florence-Darlington. The game was moved up a day from Wednesday, due to the weather forecast. The Trojans will travel to Virginia this weekend for their next conference series with Richard Bland. The Saturday doubleheader is set to start at 2pm, but keep an eye out for any schedule changes that might occur.
