Lecture: Confronting Blackness in Music

Guest composer Brittany J. Green will give a lecture on Confronting Blackness in Music: An Exploration of Black Experimentalism at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 27, in Cumberland Hall Auditorium. Green will examine the music of Julius Eastman, George E. Lewis and her own works through the lens of Black studies and through Fred Moten’s observation of the avant-garde as “necessarily not Black.” The lecture will explore the utility of experimentalism as a tool for subversion, decolonization and confronting Blackness in classical music. The event is part of the FTCC Guest Artist Concert Series and is free and open to the public.
