About BLET

The Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) curriculum is designed to give students essential skills required for employment as a law enforcement officer with state, county, or municipal governments, or with private enterprise.

If you are interested in an exciting and rewarding career in law enforcement, please review the North Carolina Justice Education and Training Standards Commission entrance requirements.

Course Work

Course work covers State commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to:
  • Alcoholic Beverage Laws
  • Crime Prevention
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Detention Duties
  • Elements of Criminal Law
  • Ethics
  • Juvenile Law, Civil Process
  • Motor Vehicle Law
  • Patrol Duties
  • Testifying in Court
  • Traffic Enforcement

Career Paths

Successful graduates receive a Basic Law Enforcement Training certificate, 20 credits towards an associate degree, and are qualified to take the certification exams mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Fall Full Time Day Academy

Dates:

Mid- August 2024 – Late January 2025 (exact dates will be announced at BLET Informational Workshops)

Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM & some Saturdays
PT 3X a week from 5:30PM to 6:30PM

To Attend a BLET Informational Workshop for Assistance in Completing the BLET Application Packet:
Workshops will be held once a month (sign up under the “How to Enroll” tab or through Facebook at FTCC Basic Law Enforcement Training)

Fall Full Time Day Academy Application Deadline:
Mid July (exact date will be announced at BLET Informational Workshops)

PT Assessment Dates:

Law Enforcement Training

FtcclawenforcementtrainingThe FTCC Law Enforcement Training department is committed to offering timely, relevant, and professional training commensurate with established mandates of the Sheriff’s Commission, the North Carolina Training and Standards Commission, and/or the Private Protective Services Board.

The majority of the course offerings are restricted to law enforcement or emergency services personnel. Some security offerings are open to the general public, with the state prescribed registration fee required.

Courses are conducted by our staff and a carefully selected group of experienced police and security officer trainers.
