High School Connections: FAQs

What do I need to know about graduation?

Students who complete a full Career & Technical Education certificate pathway will be invited to attend FTCC’s graduation ceremony. High School Connections staff will visit your classes well in advance of the ceremony to distribute information and collect graduation paperwork. It is the student’s responsibility to fill out the graduation application and turn it into the HSC office.

Students graduating with an Associate’s Degree will need to submit their final official high school transcript and can participate in the spring graduation ceremony, but will be considered a summer graduate.

High School students will wear their high school cap and gown for the graduation ceremony.

Certificates will be mailed to qualifying students at the end of the summer.

How do I get a copy of my FTCC transcript?

Unofficial copies of your transcript can be printed from your Self-Service account, but it will not be available until you have completed your first semester of High School Connections. In this case, we recommend printing a copy of your schedule.

I'm struggling in my classes. Where can I go for extra help?

First, tell your instructor. Office hours should be listed on your class syllabus. You can also visit the Student Learning Center for workshops and one-on-one assistance.

My PACT/PSAT/ACT/SAT scores are not high enough for the courses I want to take. Now what?

You can take FTCC’s placement exam (the North Carolina Diagnostic Assessment and Placement exam, or NC DAP) to obtain qualifying scores for High School Connections courses.

To test, please first complete an admissions application. Once completed, notify Chris Callagy at hsc@faytechcc.edu that you have completed the application. You can come take the placement test the next business day.

Testing is offered Monday – Thursday on a walk-in basis between the hours of 8:30 AM and 1:30 PM, and Fridays at 8:30 AM.

Come to the High School Connections office, room 128 in the Tony Rand Student Center, thirty minutes before your desired testing time.

I am planning on attending a college or university after I graduate. How do I know if my classes will transfer there?

If your institution is part of the UNC system, all of our College Transfer courses are guaranteed to transfer seamlessly as part of the Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) initiative, as long as you earned a grade of ‘C’ or better. Career & Technical Education courses will be evaluated by the receiving institution to determine what credit may be awarded.

You can take the FTCC’s placement exam (Reinforced Instructions for Student Excellence or RISE assessment) to obtain qualifying scores for High School Connections courses. This test can only be taken twice with in a 10 year time frame.
