Women’s Basketball is off to a 2-3 overall start, traveling to South Carolina and Virginia while hosting Montgomery College (MD) and Bryant & Stratton College.
FTCC vs. Denmark Tech: 74-78, Loss
The Trojans started their season off on the road traveling to Denmark, South Carolina. The Panthers were ahead after the first quarter but the Trojans pulled ahead by six going into halftime. The Trojans were still ahead by two going into the fourth quarter, but the Panthers outscored the Trojans by six this time to take the nail biter of the game by four points.
Amire Banks (Mount Vernon, GA) lead the Trojan offense with 16 points in her sophomore debut. She also added five assists and four rebounds. Freshman, Elyssa Phillips (Raleigh, NC) was right behind with 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
Keara Duncan (Fayetteville, NC) scored 13 points coming off the bench and lead the Trojan defense with nine rebounds.
FTCC vs. Montgomery College (MD): 67-44, Win
The Trojans hosted the Raptors for their home opener and earned their first win of the season. The Trojans were ahead at half time and continued to dominate the Raptors, outscoring them by 18 points in the fourth quarter.
Phillips lead the Trojans with 17 points, she also had three assists, three steals and seven rebounds. Banks followed with 14 points, five assists and seven rebounds.
Alana Hines (Fayetteville, NC) lead the Trojan defense with nine rebounds, she also had 10 points. Tateyawna Faison (Mount Olive, NC) had 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
The Trojans shot 90% from the free throw line, only missing one of their 10 foul shots.
FTCC vs. Bryant & Stratton: 64-69, Loss
The Trojans opened conference play against the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton. The Trojans trailed by five at halftime but came back out and had a big third quarter outscoring the Bobcats 18-8 to take the lead by five. The Bobcats found some energy in the fourth and pushed ahead to beat the Trojans by five points.
Phillips again lead the Trojan offense with 13 points. Banks and Hines each added 10 points.
Hines had nine of the Trojans 36 rebounds, Duncan had seven and Faison had six coming off the bench.
Aaliyah McRae (Fayetteville, NC) had seven assists.
FTCC vs. Southwest Virginia: 60-67, Loss
The Trojans headed to Virginia this past weekend for a two-day trip. They first stopped at Southwest Virginia to face the Eagles in a conference match up. The Eagles lead for the majority of the game, but the Trojans had a big second half, outscoring the Eagles in both final quarters.
Hines lead the offense with 10 points with six rebounds. Gabby Locklear (Lumberton, NC) had eight points with two assists.
Banks had seven rebounds with three steals while Taleah Meadows (Baltimore, MD) added seven rebounds and four assists.
FTCC vs. Patrick & Henry: 73-52, Win
The Trojans earned their second win over Patrick & Henry, coming from behind after getting down in the first quarter.
Nahmiah Aekins (Hope Mills, NC) went off earning a double double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Phillips had 20 points with four rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Faison scored 14 points coming off the bench and grabbed nine rebounds. Locklear earned 13 points with seven rebounds and three assists.
Denaira Williams (Fayetteville, NC) had six assists.
The Trojans return home tomorrow night as they host Brunswick for a conference game and their Gold Rush night at 6PM. First 50 students get a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich along with other prizes throughout the night courtesy of our SGA. All home games are played at Reid Ross Classical School: 3200 Ramsey Street and are $10 admission (Free with FTCC ID or children 12 & under). They then hit the road on Friday to travel over to Cleveland CC for a 5PM game.
