Women’s Basketball hosted Louisburg College last Thursday night for a conference game. The Hurricanes were ranked #17 in the nation at the time and the Trojans battled with them and came out on top by six points.
Then, they traveled to Wake Tech on Friday to beat the Eagles for their 11th win on the season, improving to 11-6 overall and 8-5 in conference play.
FTCC vs. Louisburg: 63-57, Win
After a tied first quarter at 11 points, the Trojans outscored the Hurricanes by seven to go into halftime with a lead. They came back on the court after the break and continued to battle getting the conference win over a ranked team.
Elyssa Phillips (Raleigh, NC) was the leading scorer for the Trojans with 16 points. She also had three rebounds and three steals. Amire Banks (Mount Vernon, GA) scored 15 points with five assists and two rebounds.
Aaliyah McRae (Fayetteville, NC) came off the bench for 11 points and two rebounds. Tateyawna Faison (Mount Olive, NC) had 10 rebounds, two steals and six points. Hannah Reames (Bishopville, SC) scored seven points with four steals.
Banks, Phillips and Nahmiah Aekins (Hope Mills, NC) shot a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line.
FTCC vs. Wake Tech: 75-59, Win
The Trojans lead from the start going into halftime with a six point lead. The came back out playing a better game after the half, ending the game ahead by 13 points.
Faison lead with 22 points and six rebounds. Phillips had 15 points with three assists.
Banks scored 14 points with six rebounds and three steals. Gabby Locklear (Lumberton, NC) finished the game with eight points and six rebounds.
Women’s Basketball will travel to Brunswick on Friday for a 5PM conference game. They will return home on Tuesday, Feb 3 when they host Cleveland for a 6PM tip-off. All home games are $10 admission (free with FTCC ID or children 12 & under) and are played at Reid Ross Classical School: 3200 Ramsey Street.
