Volleyball hosted two non-conference matches this past week before heading up to Cedar Bluff, Virginia to dive into conference play. The Trojans slid past Wake Tech with a 3-0 match and fought back hard against the Bulldogs of Pitt CC for a five set win during the week.
Heading into the weekend the Trojans added two conference wins with two 3-0 matches at Southwest Virginia.
The Trojans are currently 12-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
FTCC vs. Wake Tech: 3-0, Win
The Trojans beat the Eagles in the first three sets not letting them surpass 17 points until the third set.
43 kills came from the Trojan offense with Kyrie Willis (Cypress, TX) leading with 12. Ella Ferrie (Stanchfield, MN) finished with nine kills, two service aces and 10 digs.
Taylor Detrant (Keizer, OR) set up 31 of those kills and also had 13 digs.
Sammy Harless (St. George, UT) had four blocks and Kayloni Eddings (Pembroke, NC) had three.
FTCC vs. Pitt: 3-2, Win
The Bulldogs pulled way ahead to start off the first set, but the Trojans started to slowly work their way back into the game and ended up pushing the set to extra points winning 30-28 in set one.
After another back and forth battle, the Bulldogs pulled out set two to tie it back up. The Trojans pushed set three to extra points again and pulled ahead 2-1 over Pitt until they came back and took set four to force the fifth set.
The Trojans pulled out the 15-10 win in the fifth set to take the match.
Four players had double digit kills: Willis lead with 22, Ferrie had 20, Harless and Bre Harrison (Greenwood, SC) each had 10.
Detrant ended the match with 62 assists. Addie Hudson (Wade, NC) lead the defense with 20 digs.
The Trojans had 21 blocks, five coming from each Harless and Eddings.
FTCC vs. Cleveland: 3-0, Win
The Trojans came out in their second conference match of the season, not letting the Yetis pass 11 points in set one and 14 in set two.
Willis had a kill percentage of .524, finishing the match with 12 kills. Ferrie had 10 with 11 digs. Harless added seven kills, five digs and four blocks.
Detrant ended the match with 30 assists and 10 digs. Hudson added 10 digs.
Eddings had six blocks and three kills. Detrant and Harrison also added three blocks each.
FTCC vs. Southwest Virginia: 3-0, Win
The Flying Eagles put up a tougher fight in the Trojans’ second conference match of the day.
The Trojans had 44 kills in the match. Willis had 13 kills with two blocks and Ferrie had 12 kills and 14 digs.
Eddings lead the Trojans again with four blocks and also had three kills.
Detrant added 29 assists with five kills.
The Trojans are back at home this week on Tuesday and Thursday at 6PM. They host Louisburg for a conference match first and then follow up with a non-conference game on Thursday against USC-Salkehatchie. On Saturday, the Trojans will host a conference pod in Horace Sisk. They will play two conference matches this day; the first against Guilford Tech at 10AM and then Davidson-Davie at 4PM.
All home games are played in Horace Sisk Gym on main campus and admission is $10 or free with FTCC ID.
