2026 Living Law Poster Finalrev1 Page 001Fayetteville Technical Community College’s Living Law Project returns with a public event March 24, 2026, to explore the 2005 Supreme Court case of Kelo v. New London.

This free event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in FTCC’s Tony Rand Student Center, located at 2220 Hull Road in Fayetteville.

FTCC’s Living Law Project, now in its fourth year, examines some of the United States justice system’s most intriguing court cases, encourages community discussions, and promotes collaborative learning among our students, faculty, and staff.

In the landmark case of Kelo v. New London, Susette Kelo, a resident of New London, Connecticut, challenged the city’s authority to seize private property to sell to private developers, arguing the city violated the owners’ Fifth Amendment rights.

The Supreme Court 5-4 decision’s supported the government’s authority to seize individual property and give it to a private developer, expanding the government’s eminent domain powers.

This year’s event will open with a short film dramatizing the events of the case and include a panel discussion featuring legal experts. Audience members are welcome to participate in a Q&A session with the panelists following the presentation.
