Community College of the Air Force and the GEM Program

Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) is a federally chartered institution that grants Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degrees to enlisted members of the U.S. Air Force and Space Force.

General Education Mobile (GEM) General Education Mobile, or GEM is a partnership between CCAF and partnering regionally accredited civilian schools to provide general education courses that meet CCAF requirements in an online format.

Through the GEM program, CCAF students can complete their 15-hour General Education Course requirement via eight-week, online distatnce-learning courses offered through Fayetteville Technical Community College. These courses meet all CCAF Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree requirements and can be completed in a single calendar year, assuming no developmental or prerequisite courses are necessary.

How to Get Started in the GEM Program

Step 1:

Log into the Air Force Portal to view GEM schools and approved courses.

  • Log in to the Air Force Portal and select Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC).
  • Select “GEM Program” and search for approved GEM schools.
  • Locate Fayetteville Technical Community College to view the list of pre-approved online courses available to you.
  • Click on course titles to view course information.
