FTCC volleyball fell in straight sets on the road Saturday, Sept. 21, to Catawba Valley CC, the sixth-ranked NJCAA Division II program in the country.

The Trojans (4-4) were overpowered in the passing game, as the Red Hawks’ posted 15 aces on serve and forced 13 receiving errors from FTCC.

Catawba Valley cruised through the first set at 25-8 and finished off the match with scores of 25-13 and 25-16 in the final two sets.

Libero AnnMarie Miller and outside hitter Anna Grey Barbour were bright spots on defense. Miller tallied 10 digs, and Barbour recorded eight.

Sophomore middle Da’Nya McPhatter scored four kills, while Alexis Spexarth, McKenzie Smith and Barbour each added three.

The Trojans return to FTCC for three matches this week. They’ll host Central Carolina CC on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 5:30 p.m. and meet Surry CC (1 p.m.) and Rockingham CC (5 p.m) in a tri-match Saturday, Sept. 28.
