FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — FTCC volleyball dropped its first five-setter of the season Saturday, Sept. 28, to visiting conference opponent Surry CC in the opening contest of the Trojans’ tri-match against the Knights and Rockingham CC.

After losing the first set 25-18, the Trojans (5-5) rallied to take the second and third sets, despite going without starting libero AnnMarie Miller, who exited the game during the first set with an ankle injury.

FTCC won those sets 25-16 and 25-19, powered by a run of big hits at the net, including 15 kills in the second set.

A run a Trojan errors helped the Knights regain momentum in the fourth, leading to a 25-16 score in favor of Surry and forcing a fifth set.

The Knights edged away early and took it 15-12 for the win.

Freshman Kristen Woods, who took over at libero for the injured Miller, tallied 26 digs in the match.

Alexis Spexarth recorded 19 kills and two assisted blocks. Da’Nya McPhatter had three solo blocks and three assisted blocks.
