FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Two Fayetteville Tech softball players earned All-Region 10 honors for the 2021 season.

Center fielder Angel Pearsall was awarded first team honors, while catcher Alexis Washenko made second team.

The duo were key players in the Trojans’ season, which culminated with a first-round appearance in the Region 10 Tournament last weekend. Both players were in the lineup for all 30 games this season.

“You can see from her on-base percentage and batting average that Angel had consistency at the plate,” Trojans’ coach Keith Edgerton said. “And she showed a lot of power out of the leadoff spot, and that was the difference for her this season.”

Pearsall, a freshman out of Rose Hill, N.C., led the Trojans with a .452 batting average, putting in the top 10 among Region 10 Division II batters for the regular season. As the team’s leadoff batter, she led the team in hits (42) and runs (26).

Washenko, a native of Havelock, N.C., had the second highest batting average on the team at .403. Pearsall and Washenko each tallied eight doubles and two home runs, and Pearsall had one triple.

“Alexis put together a good year, numbers-wise,” Edgerton said. “But more than anything, it seemed like when we really needed a hit, she could come through with a key hit for us.”
