Position Overview: This position is located int he Transportation Unit, Adult Services Division

Examples of Duties: This Human Resources Aide transports Medicaid customers to and from medical appointments in Cumberland County as well as surrounding counties. Duties of this position involve operating their privately-owned or county assigned vehicle in accordance with written instructions detailing procedures for picking up customers, transporting them to their destination, and working with medical providers around issues such as return appointments, interpreting medical instructions, and specific client disabilities. Also, ensuring several Medicaid verification forms are signed by customer and medical facilities and returning them to the office.

This worker must be knowledgeable about traffic regulations, seat belt legislation, and installation, transfer techniques for persons with ambulatory difficulties, and agency policies governing direct service provision. This worker will also serve as a driver transporting customers to medical clinics and hospitals in the Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh areas often in a wheelchair lift van. In-county travel requires scheduling various shift between the hours of 5:00 am – 7:00 pm. Out-of-town trips usually being at 6:00 am and may end as late as 9:00 or 10:00 pm. Applicant must be able to drive during night hours. Flexibility is a requirement for this position due to in and out of country destinations and pick up and return times.

Other duties include conferences with supervisor as well as social workers or medical staff. This position also completes reports such as day sheets, mileage sheets, incident reports and involves some computer input and printing.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Education and Experience: Graduation from High School or equivalent and possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least one year of experience in performing tasks similar to the ones assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Required: Demonstrated possession of abilities listed above.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to transport clients safely and efficiently; skilled in basic reading, writing, and simple mathematics; to follow written and verbal directions to record basic data; report observations to supervisor; and to perform required physical tasks. Basic knowledge of the social, economic, and environmental conditions of customers to be served; working knowledge of and ability to enlist the aid of available community resources; ability to establish rapport and relate to population served and a variety of service disciplines (social workers, doctors, teachers) and community businesses; ability to prepare and maintain simple reports of activities; ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations; and ability to verbally communicate findings.

The employee in this position will be operating motor vehicles for Cumberland County and shall have a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

Law enforcement background check is required.

This position will require assisting in emergency and/or disaster situations.
